D2L: Reopen a Submitted Quiz Attempt

In some situations, you may want to allow a student to continue working on a quiz after an attempt has already been submitted. D2L allows instructors to reopen the most recently submitted quiz attempt so that the student can return to the quiz and continue from where they left off.

Reopening an attempt can help when:

  • A student’s quiz attempt is automatically submitted when the time limit is reached.
  • A student accidentally clicks Submit Quiz before they are finished.
  • A student misses the quiz End Date and you want them to continue their existing attempt rather than creating a new one.

Using this option can reduce frustration for students and save instructors time by avoiding the need to create additional quiz attempts.

For step-by-step instructions, see: Manage Quizzes with Learner Attempts – Reopen a Submitted Quiz Attempt

Important: If you are reopening an attempt for an asynchronous quiz and the quiz end date has already passed, you must also extend the End Date. Otherwise, the student will not be able to access the quiz again, even though the attempt has been reopened.
